The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funds support and services for eligible Australians living with a disability. It is run by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).
If you’re eligible for an NDIS plan, you will receive funding to work towards your goals. Everyone’s goals will be different, but they could include:
- Living independently at home
- Finding and keeping a job
- Socialising in the community
What can I use my NDIS plan for?
Once you have your NDIS plan, you can use it to access a range of support including:
- Service providers such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists or exercise physiologists
- Support workers or carers
- Assistive technology or home modifications
You get to choose who you would like to work with to achieve your goals. The NDIS gives you purchasing power and control.

What can't I use my NDIS plan for?
The NDIS does not pay for living expenses like rent, food or bills. These still need to be paid from your normal income.
If you receive the Disability Support Pension or a Health Care Card this will not be impacted as the NDIS is not means-tested.
